Our RE Intent
At Riverbridge, the R.E. curriculum provides children with the opportunity to reflect, make judgments and query a wide range of different religious and non-religious beliefs. Within these lessons, children will have the right to have their own opinions and responses valued as reflected in our school’s ‘8 Great Values’. Sacred texts and places of worship are a key focus to support their curiosity of what practising a religion involves. We ensure to cover a wide range of religions that are present in our diverse school community. Using the Surrey Agreed Syllabus, children are immersed in a systematic and comparative curriculum. Starting in EYFS, children are encouraged to discuss their personal beliefs and values, with specific focus on celebrations and special events. In KS1 children begin to learn about how these values impact themselves and others in the community, and start to make connections between different belief systems that they are familiar with. In KS2, children are challenged to reflect on why people hold certain beliefs and explain how these different moral frameworks hold similar values. Additionally, they will consider the impact this has on their view of the community and themselves. By the end of their time at Riverbridge, all children will have the opportunity to respectfully discuss and compare beliefs in a way that encourages them to become more inclusive and understanding of others.
