We are pleased to share with you details of our next set of online courses. Please forward this bulletin directly to families who may be interested, or to other partners to forward to their families.

We have developed an online offer to support parents and their children in the curriculum areas of maths and English as an Additional Language (EAL). If you scroll down you will find further information about these free online courses for parents.

Before you register you should:

  • Have connectivity to the internet through a laptop, tablet or smartphone.
  • Read about the course. You would be able to enrol on one or both.
  • Be aware that these sessions are being trialled and that we welcome your feedback.
  • Be able to commit to 3 weekly short sessions.
  • Be aware that we will need some details. Once you have responded, a member of the Family Learning Team will be in touch by phone. 

 

Courses Overview

1. Maths Course Overview


On this course, you will work online with the tutor and other parents and carers to improve your own maths skills as well as improving your ability to support your children’s learning. You will also improve your understanding of the maths curriculum. Your child may be able to learn with you on this course.

What will we cover?

We will cover a range of topics that may include –

  • Addition and subtraction
  • Multiplication and division
  • Place value
  • Fractions & Percentages
  • Probability
  • Mental maths methods
  • Maths games
  • Maths vocabulary


2. EAL Course Overview – For parents who do not speak English

On this course, you will work online with the tutor and other parents and carers to improve your English language skills as well as improving your ability to support your children’s learning. You will also improve your understanding of education in the UK.

This is an adult-only course.

What will we cover?

  • Bilingualism
  • Reading with children
  • Phonics
  • Education in England including British values

You will also find support and advice on a range of questions you may have – including helping your child with their phonics, motivating boys to read and ensuring your child is doing their best in maths.

The easy to use videos created by educators are specifically designed to meet key concepts and objectives and are age appropriate.

Times Tables Rock Stars  is a FREE website children from Year 3 - 6 have access to. To load the latest version in their device's visit: play.ttrockstars.com/reset or update the Times Tables Rock Stars app from the app store.
